After setting the cinema box office on fire the world over for two weeks and counting -- including in North America, where it has finished in the top ten box office for two consecutive weekends -- the Telugu language science fiction epic Kalki 2898 AD, starring global superstars Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Kamal Haasan, was given a special screening in the heart of Hollywood at none other than the historic TCL Chinese Theatre today, Saturday, July 13. Flying in from India to make his very first visit to the world famous movie palace for this landmark event was director and co-writer Nag Ashwin, whose introduction to and discussion of the film can be viewed in my complete video of the event below.
Apple TV+'s hotly anticipated, seven-episode limited series adaptation of Laura Lippman's bestselling novel Lady in the Lake had its official premiere screening at the Museum of Arts and Design last night, Thursday, July 11, in New York City. Among those on hand for the event were star/executive producer Natalie Portman; stars Moses Ingram, Y'lan Noel, Josiah Cross, Byron Bowers, Noah Jupe, and Mikey Madison; series creator/writer/director/executive producer Alma Har'el; and the original author herself, and also executive producer, Lippman. Lady in the Lake premieres with its first two episodes on Apple TV+ on Friday, July 19, with the following five then released weekly on Fridays thereafter.

Following stops in Shanghai, Seoul, and Berlin, the worldwide Deadpool & Wolverine promotional tour had a homecoming of sorts today, Thursday, July 11, as it landed in its primary location for filming, England, for a fan event in London. Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson/Deadpool/co-writer/producer), Hugh Jackman (Logan/Wolverine), Emma Corrin (Cassandra Nova), Shawn Levy (director/co-writer/producer), and Wendy Jacobson (executive producer) were joined on the red carpet this time at the Eventim Apollo by tour newcomer Rob Delaney (Peter). The group share their thoughts on the project and event in the video below.
After launching in Asia with a couple of stops in Shanghai and Seoul, the worldwide promotional tour for Marvel Studios' Deadpool & Wolverine crossed continents over to Europe today, Sunday, July 7, with another large fan event, this time in Berlin, Germany. Star/co-writer/producer Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), star Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), and director/co-writer/producer Shawn Levy literally biked over to the Uber Arena, where they were joined by, in their first tour appearances, co-star Emma Corrin (Cassandra Nova, the big bad of the film) and executive producer Wendy Jacobson. To celebrate the 25th anniversary theatrical rerelease of Tom Tykwer's celebrated German action thriller Run Lola Run (Lola Rennt), Lola herself, Franka Potente, appeared in person on two consecutive nights at Landmark Theatres' Nuart -- one of the venues where the film began its wildly successful arthouse run (no pun intended) back in 1999. With the SAG-AFTRA strike having ended on Thursday, November 9, Marvel Studios wasted no time in getting two of its toplined trio of The Marvels, Iman Vellani (Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel) and Brie Larson (Carol Danvers), out on the trail for a two-pronged, bicoastal opening night special appearance salvo. First, in New York City, Larson made an appearance at an opening night showing at the AMC Empire 25 in Times Square, at one point getting co-star Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury) on a live Facetime call. Over on the west coast, the film's movie-stealing breakout Vellani, alongside director/co-writer Nia DaCosta and composer Laura Karpman, appeared on stage to greet fans at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood. In the last couple of years, Will Smith has further grown his already massive, long lasting, global celebrity in the arena of social media, so it's fitting that the venue for the press conference promoting his latest "day job" project, the science fiction action thriller Gemini Man, would be at YouTube Space in Playa Vista. But the film itself is an appropriate fit for a tech-minded site, what with director Ang Lee once again pushing the visual effects envelope after his celebrated, Academy Award-winning work in Life of Pi. On that note, joining Smith and Lee for the discussion (below) were visual effects supervisors Bill Westenhofer and Guy Williams, along with blockbuster director Jerry Bruckheimer.
With all business matters and breaking news, from the studios selling their product for the year to come to vendors peddling the latest in cinema technologies and concessions offerings to exhibitors voicing and tending to their various industry concerns, firmly in the rear view, CinemaCon 2019 came to its close with the Thursday night, no-worries tradition of the Big Screen Achievement Awards, honoring notable acting and filmmaking talent, most of whom involved in upcoming releases featured throughout the week at the various studio presentations. The hotly anticipated Star Wars universe spin-off/prequel Solo: A Star Wars Story had its most splashy debut on the world cinema stage earlier today with a gala screening at the Cannes Film Festival, but director Ron Howard and cast members Alden Ehrenreich (Han Solo), Donald Glover (Lando Calrissian), Emilia Clarke (Qi'ra), Woody Harrelson (Tobias Beckett), Thandie Newton (Val), Joonas Suotamo (Chewbacca), Paul Bettany (Dryden Vos), and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (L3-37); and screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan and Jonathan Kasdan first faced the international media this past weekend at the Pasadena Convention Center, site of the film's global press conference. Below is complete video of the entire spirited event, as cast and crew candidly shared their reflections on the film's production and their thoughts on the ageless and ever-expanding long ago galaxy far, far away.
