Tomorrow, Friday, August 9, the 2024 edition of D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, The Walt Disney Company's biennial fan convention, opens for what will certainly be a wild weekend of activity through Sunday, August 11, at the Anaheim Convention Center and the nearby Honda Center. Thirteen years ago, back in 2011, was the one and, thus far at least, only time I was able to attend and cover the event -- alas, I was not cleared to cover this weekend's festivities -- which was then called D23 Expo. From my personally shot photo archives comes these images of various out-of-context sights from in and around that event, only its second edition, that was held on August 19-21, 2011, back before the company acquired Lucasfilm.
