Press Junket Potluck: Free Birds' Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson & Amy Poehler talk turkey

Film Flam Flummox

Although an animated feature starring turkeys, the lead characters of Free Birds--smart, smart alecky Reggie; tough turkey freedom fighter Jake, who enlists Reggie to assist in his time-traveling mission to remove their kind from the Thanksgiving menu; Jenny, daughter of the chief of a turkey tribe in the year 1621--are not only lent voice by, respectively, Owen Wilson, Woody Harrelson, and Amy Poehler, but also their famously live wire comic personae. This was very much in evidence on Saturday, October 12, when the trio along with the film's director, Jimmy Hayward, took part in a press conference in Beverly Hills that was atypical in its quick-witted energy but all too befitting the celebratory holiday spirit. Relativity Media thankfully provided video of the complete press conference for those of us who attended the event, for text transcription would have failed to captured the personalities of and undeniable chemistry between this group as they offered insight into the production, their characters, and their personal views on holidays and--yes--time travel.

Free Birds opens today, Friday, November 1, in cinemas nationwide from Relativity Media.

F3PR: Vince Vaughn & Owen Wilson to receive CinemaCon Comedy Duo of the Year Award

Film Flam Flummox

PRESS RELEASE

VINCE VAUGHN & OWEN WILSON TO RECEIVE
CINEMACON® COMEDY DUO OF THE YEAR AWARD”

20th CENTURY FOX TO RELEASE
THE INTERNSHIP JUNE 7, 2013

WASHINGTON D.C. (April 8, 2013) – Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson will receive the “CinemaCon® Comedy Duo of the Year Award” at this year’s CinemaCon, it was announced today by the convention’s Managing Director Mitch Neuhauser. CinemaCon, the largest and most important convention for the motion picture theatre industry, will be held from April 15-18, 2013 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas at which time more than 5,000 industry members will be gathering. Vaughn and Wilson will be presented with this special honor at the “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony to take place on Thursday evening, April 18, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, the official presenting sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.

“When it comes to comedy, it doesn't get better than Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. They are two of the most gifted comedy actors of this or any generation," noted Neuhauser. "It's always a fun time at the movies when they appear in their own films, but when they team up, the fun increases exponentially and the laughter doesn't let up from start to finish. We could not be more excited to see them reunite in The Internship, and to be able to honor them as CinemaCon's very first ‘Comedy Duo of the Year.'"

Vaughn and Wilson can be seen later this summer in the comedy The Internship, from 20th Century Fox and New Regency, arriving in theaters June 7, 2013. Vaughn and Wilson star as salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world. Trying to prove they are not obsolete, they defy the odds by talking their way into a coveted internship at Google, along with a battalion of brilliant college students. But, gaining entrance to this utopia is only half the battle. Now they must compete with a group of the nation’s most elite, tech-savvy geniuses to prove that necessity really is the mother of re-invention.

A Chicago native, actor, producer and screenwriter, Vince Vaughn first caught the attention of critics and audiences in the independent sleeper hit and cult classic Swingers. His impressive scope of work includes hit films and comedy classics including Old School, Wedding Crashers, The Break Up, Four Christmases, Couples Retreat and The Dilemma. He can also be seen later this year in Dreamworks Pictures’ The Delivery Man. In addition to starring in The Internship, Vaughn wrote the screenplay and also serves as producer.

Having won great acclaim for his memorable turns in mainstream and independent films, Wilson earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of screenwriter and aspiring novelist ‘Gil Pender’ in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. His additional film credits include Little Fockers, Marley & Me, Night at the Museum and the sequel Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Wedding Crashers, Cars and Cars 2, The Royal Tenenbaums and Fantastic Mr. Fox, to name just a few. This fall, Wilson will lend his voice to Relativity’s animated comedy Free Birds opposite Woody Harrelson.
