WASHINGTON D.C. (January 31, 2014) – Craig Dehmel, Senior Vice President of Sales and Strategic Planning at 20th Century Fox International, will receive this year’s “Passepartout Award” as part of the convention’s International Day, it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon. The CinemaCon “Passepartout Award" is presented annually to an industry executive who demonstrates dedication and commitment to the international marketplace. CinemaCon, the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), will be held March 24 – 27, 2014 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The International Day Luncheon will take place on Monday, March 24, 2014, where more than 800 industry executives from the international market are expected to be on hand.

"Respected and admired by his peers throughout the international market, Craig is simply the ideal recipient of this year's 'Passepartout Award,'” said Neuhauser. “Having played significant roles in some of the industry's biggest international box-office releases during his 14 year tenure with Fox, his career speaks for itself. We're proud to present this year's honor to someone as worthy as Craig Dehmel."

Craig Dehmel manages the theatrical release planning and execution of all 20th Century Fox-distributed titles in over 60 markets worldwide. His role includes strategic dating, competitive analysis, financial review, exhibitor relations, regional oversight and integrated release planning. Over his fourteen year career with Fox, Dehmel has helped plan the successful theatrical releases of hundreds of Fox International-distributed titles, including the Industry’s biggest International box office title, Avatar and the Industry’s two biggest animated titles at International box office, Ice Age: Continental Drift and Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. More recently, he was responsible for the release planning and execution of the triumphant Life of Pi. In 2013, 20th Century Fox International completed its 5th consecutive year exceeding $2B GBO, an industry record.

Dehmel commits a significant amount of time mentoring students, helping them learn the business of entertainment and find roles in the industry appropriate for their skills and interests. He has mentored more than 100 interns and students during his career at Fox. Dehmel has been a guest lecturer at the Anderson School of Business (UCLA) for the past 12 years, teaching a seminar on the fundamentals of the worldwide theatrical business. He is also a regular guest speaker at the Annenberg School of Communications and Peter Stark Producing Program, both at USC.

Prior to joining Fox, Dehmel was Marketing Director for Ocean Park Pictures; an independent producer of film and TV commercials. He started his entertainment career as an account executive / production manager for JP Advertising, servicing studio clients, such as Disney, MGM, Orion, and Sony Classics.

(January 28, 2014) – Acclaimed animation director, Carlos Saldanha, will be honored with a special "International Filmmaker of the Year" Award, as part of CinemaCon’s International Day, it was announced today by Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon. CinemaCon, the official convention of The National Association of Theatre Owners (NATO), will be held March 24 – 27, 2014 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Saldanha will receive his special honor during International Day festivities, to take place on Monday, March 24, 2014.

Saldanha is currently completing production on Rio 2 which sees the return of all of our favorite Rio characters including those voiced by Anne Hathaway, Jesse Eisenberg, Jemaine Clement, Leslie Mann, George Lopez, will.i.am and Jamie Foxx along with new friends being voiced by Andy Garcia, GRAMMY® winner Bruno Mars, Tony® winner Kristin Chenoweth and Oscar®/Emmy®/Tony®/ GRAMMY® winner Rita Moreno. The Twentieth Century Fox film is slated for release April 11, 2014.

Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Saldanha, who has a background in computer science, left for New York City in 1991 to follow his passion for animation. While enrolled in the Master of Fine Arts program at New York’s School of Visual Arts, Saldanha completed two animated shorts, The Adventures of Korky, the Corkscrew and Time for Love. After graduating from the program with honors, Saldanha joined Chris Wedge and the team of artists at Blue Sky Studios. Following his roles as both supervising animator and director of animation on television commercials and film, Saldanha teamed with Wedge to co-direct Blue Sky’s first animated features Ice Age and Robots. After Ice Age received an Oscar® nomination, Saldanha went on to direct the animated short film Gone Nutty, also nominated for an Oscar®. Additionally, Saldanha directed Ice Age: The Meltdown, and directed Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs with co-director Mike Thurmeier. In 2011, Saldanha directed the global blockbuster Rio, which grossed over $486 million.

Los Angeles, 13th January: The International Indian Film Awards (IIFA) Weekend is all set to make its American debut as they bring the magic of Indian Cinema to Tampa Bay, Florida. The 15th edition of the IIFA Weekend & Awards will be held this year from the 24th – 26th of April. IIFA management along with Bollywood superstars Anil Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra are currently on a press tour in the United States, having made their first pit-stop today in the home to Hollywood, Los Angeles.

On the second leg of the tour and in the host city, Tampa, IIFA today announced its celebrations ahead of the film industry’s highly anticipated weekend extravaganza which is set to include film briefings, the IIFA Film Workshop, the FICCI-IIFA Global Business Forum, IIFA Rocks, IIFA Magic of the Movies & Technical Awards and the crown jewel of the Videocon D2H IIFA Weekend, the TATA Motors IIFA Awards. The IIFA delegation and the stars will continue on to the last leg of the tour making its way to the Big Apple, New York.

LOS ANGELES (January 11, 2014) – Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, announced the winners of its three Spirit Awards filmmaker grants today at its annual Spirit Awards Nominee Brunch held at BOA Steakhouse in West Hollywood. Spirit Awards Honorary Chairperson Angela Bassett and actors Emily Mortimer and Alessandro Nivola hosted the event and handed out the honors.

“Supporting emerging filmmakers is a cornerstone of our organization’s mission,” said Film Independent President Josh Welsh. “These grants help ensure that their independent creativity can shine on. Congratulations to all the finalists and recipients.”

Toby Halbrooks and James M. Johnston received the Piaget Producers Award. The award honors emerging producers who, despite highly limited resources, demonstrate the creativity, tenacity, and vision required to produce quality, independent films. The annual award, in its 17th year, includes a $25,000 unrestricted grant funded by Piaget. Finalists were Jacob Jaffke, Andrea Roa and Frederick Thornton.

Jason Osder, director of Let the Fire Burn, received the Stella Artois Truer Than Fiction Award. The award is presented to an emerging director of non-fiction features who has not received significant recognition. The award is in its 19th year and includes a $25,000 unrestricted grant funded by Stella Artois. Stephanie Spray and Pacho Velez for Manakamana and Kalyanee Mam for A River Changes Course were also finalists for the award.

Shaka King, director of Newlyweeds, received the Someone to Watch Award. The award recognizes a talented filmmaker of singular vision who has not yet received appropriate recognition. The award is in its 20th year and includes a $25,000 unrestricted grant. The finalists for the award included Aaron Douglas Johnston for My Sister’s Quinceañera and Madeleine Olnek for The Foxy Merkins.

The Film Independent Spirit Awards are sponsored by Premier Sponsors Piaget, the Lincoln Motor Company and IFC and by Principal Sponsor Stella Artois. Winners for the remaining categories will be revealed at the 2014 Film Independent Spirit Awards in a tent at Santa Monica beach on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Festival introduces an online awards for
moviegoers to name the best in Black cinema

NEW YORK, NY, January 8, 2014 – Film Life, Inc., the organization that produces the American Black Film Festival (ABFF) today announced the nominations for The ABFF Hollywood Awards -- an online platform created to recognize the work of persons of African descent in the motion picture industry and outstanding films portraying the Black experience. The awards will give fans a voice in naming the best movies and performances of the past year, exciting interest in Black cinema during Hollywood’s award season and Black History Month.

“Hollywood is an industry centered on gaining widespread interest and support of mass audiences yet the large majority of awards platforms are determined by small and relatively non diverse groups of industry insiders. This award will allow people from all walks of life a chance to participate in the process of celebrating good work”, said Jeff Friday, ABFF Founder/CEO of Film Life, Inc. The Awards and Festival are a part of the ABFF brand’s global initiative to promote the universal appeal of Black cinema by showcasing Black artists, stories and culture to a broader audience.

ABFF Hollywood Awards will be determined by popular vote of the general public; inclusive of the 90,000 plus American Black Film Festival alumni around the world. Voting will take place January 15 through January 22, at www.abffhollywoodawards.com. The winners will be revealed online February 19, during a five-minute “web show,” hosted by Chris Spencer (Executive Producer/Creator of BET’s Real Husbands of Hollywood), that will feature him tracking down winners to present the Award trophy and capture their acceptance speech.

The nominees below were selected by a jury of film critics and entertainment editors from African American media outlets around the country. For consideration, films must have had U.S. theatrical release dates between January 1 and December 31, 2013, with a minimum two-week run in New York and Los Angeles, as well as have been directed by, written by, produced by or featuring in a leading role, a person(s) of African descent. Individuals (actors, directors, producers, and writers) must be of African descent.
