PRESS RELEASE

VINCE VAUGHN & OWEN WILSON TO RECEIVE
CINEMACON® COMEDY DUO OF THE YEAR AWARD”

20th CENTURY FOX TO RELEASE
THE INTERNSHIP JUNE 7, 2013

WASHINGTON D.C. (April 8, 2013) – Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson will receive the “CinemaCon® Comedy Duo of the Year Award” at this year’s CinemaCon, it was announced today by the convention’s Managing Director Mitch Neuhauser. CinemaCon, the largest and most important convention for the motion picture theatre industry, will be held from April 15-18, 2013 at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas at which time more than 5,000 industry members will be gathering. Vaughn and Wilson will be presented with this special honor at the “CinemaCon Big Screen Achievement Awards” ceremony to take place on Thursday evening, April 18, in The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. The Coca-Cola Company, the official presenting sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.

“When it comes to comedy, it doesn't get better than Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. They are two of the most gifted comedy actors of this or any generation," noted Neuhauser. "It's always a fun time at the movies when they appear in their own films, but when they team up, the fun increases exponentially and the laughter doesn't let up from start to finish. We could not be more excited to see them reunite in The Internship, and to be able to honor them as CinemaCon's very first ‘Comedy Duo of the Year.'"

Vaughn and Wilson can be seen later this summer in the comedy The Internship, from 20th Century Fox and New Regency, arriving in theaters June 7, 2013. Vaughn and Wilson star as salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital world. Trying to prove they are not obsolete, they defy the odds by talking their way into a coveted internship at Google, along with a battalion of brilliant college students. But, gaining entrance to this utopia is only half the battle. Now they must compete with a group of the nation’s most elite, tech-savvy geniuses to prove that necessity really is the mother of re-invention.

A Chicago native, actor, producer and screenwriter, Vince Vaughn first caught the attention of critics and audiences in the independent sleeper hit and cult classic Swingers. His impressive scope of work includes hit films and comedy classics including Old School, Wedding Crashers, The Break Up, Four Christmases, Couples Retreat and The Dilemma. He can also be seen later this year in Dreamworks Pictures’ The Delivery Man. In addition to starring in The Internship, Vaughn wrote the screenplay and also serves as producer.

Having won great acclaim for his memorable turns in mainstream and independent films, Wilson earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his portrayal of screenwriter and aspiring novelist ‘Gil Pender’ in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. His additional film credits include Little Fockers, Marley & Me, Night at the Museum and the sequel Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Wedding Crashers, Cars and Cars 2, The Royal Tenenbaums and Fantastic Mr. Fox, to name just a few. This fall, Wilson will lend his voice to Relativity’s animated comedy Free Birds opposite Woody Harrelson.

The Coca-Cola Company, the official presenting sponsor of CinemaCon, will host the final night gala awards program.

“One of Hollywood’s most versatile actresses, Elizabeth Banks has captured moviegoing audiences’ attention across the globe with her spot-on portrayals of a diverse array of characters,” noted Neuhauser. “From First Lady Laura Bush in W., to an emotionally charged pregnant woman in What to Expect When You’re Expecting, to the highly fashionable and eccentric Capitol Escort Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games, Banks embraces each role unlike no other actress out there. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a "Victor's Tour" of the districts. Along the way, Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

With a graduate degree from the American Conservatory Theater, Banks has graced the stage, small screen and big screen. On the big screen, she can be seen in such diverse films as Pitch Perfect, The Hunger Games, What to Expect When You’re Expecting, People Like Us, Our Idiot Brother, W., Zack and Miri Make A Porno, Seabiscuit and Catch Me If You Can, to name a few. She has also appeared on Modern Family and in a recurring role on Scrubs. Her extensive theater credits include many roles in American Conservatory Theater productions as well as the Guthrie Theater’s production of Summer & Smoke. In 2006, Banks played Cherie, the female lead in William Inge’s comedy Bus Stop, as part of the Williamstown Theater Festival.

Briefly... on The Great Gatsby trailer

Film Flam Flummox

Ever since I witnessed the unveiling of first tantalizing tastes of Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby at CinemaCon 2012 last April, I have been eagerly anticipating the mad Aussie's 3D take on the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel--anticipation that only grew when Warner Bros. pushed back the release date from an awards-baiting Holiday 2012 berth to an early summer 2013 release date. Usually such a major release shift denotes some sort of trouble, but moving a period romance from a more drama-friendly season to ultracompetitive summer suggests that Warner Bros. sees the film as one that could go over with the masses--which is what happened when Fox did a nearly identical rescheduling move a dozen years earlier with Luhrmann's (now-widely beloved) Moulin Rouge!. Judging by the newest and final official trailer for the film before the May 10 opening, I can see this potentially being the date movie for the season. As with nearly all late campaign trailers, this new one is more conventionally dialogue- and plot-heavy than all previous teasers and spots for the film, but 45 seconds in, a more familiarly, distinctly Luhrmann vibe takes over: clever, unconventional, yet pitch-perfect music choices playing against grandiose costumes and production design that serves as a backdrop to unabashedly outsized, often operatic emotion, best exemplified by the electric, soulful looks of longing exchanged between a truly radiant Carey Mulligan as Daisy and Leonardo DiCaprio comfortably slipping back into his long-neglected romantic lead shoes as the title character. If there's any disappointment with this particular spot, it's the absence of Indian screen legend Amitabh Bachchan (in, shockingly as it may seem, his Hollywood debut), who was prominently featured in previous trailers. But for the home stretch of the campaign, it is a wise choice to push the romantic hook and push it hard--and I am not ashamed to admit that my inner sap is already swooning. But we shall see if the finished product is akin to a romantic evergreen like Moulin Rouge! or a gorgeous but only sporadically effective and affecting Australia when The Great Gatsby opens in cinemas everywhere on Friday, May 10.
