F3PR: Chance The Rapper to launch Coloring Book 10-year anniversary with Magnificent Coloring World screenings

Film Flam Flummox

PRESS RELEASE

CHANCE THE RAPPER TO LAUNCH COLORING BOOK
10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY WITH LIMITED
MAGNIFICENT COLORING WORLD SCREENINGS

Rooftop Cinema Club to Host Screenings in
Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles,
Followed by Live Q&A with Chance

“A visually striking and musically uplifting experience.”
- Richard Roeper, Chicago Sun-Times

[Chicago, IL - May 4, 2026] Chance the Rapper will kick off the 10-year anniversary celebration of his seminal project, Coloring Book, with a series of limited screenings of the Magnificent Coloring World concert film at Rooftop Cinema Club in Chicago (May 16), New York (May 20), and Los Angeles (June 20). Tickets go on sale today, May 4, at RooftopCinemaClub.com.

The screenings at Rooftop Cinema Club will be the first public opportunity for fans to enjoy a shared viewing of Magnificent Coloring World, followed by a live Q&A with Chance. The limited run also serves as the opening moment in a broader anniversary rollout.

Originally filmed in 2016, Magnificent Coloring World is a fully realized visual extension of the Coloring Book era. Directed by Jake Schreier and filmed at Chicago’s historic Cinespace, the project blends live performance with stylized set design, immersive lighting, and theatrical staging to create a cohesive visual world rooted in the themes of joy, faith, and community that defined the Coloring Book era. The film had a run of preview screenings in 2021 and is now back for the 10-year anniversary alongside Rooftop Cinema Club.

Featuring live renditions of fan-adored tracks like “No Problem,” “Blessings,” and “Same Drugs,” the film brings together a range of collaborators from the Coloring Book universe. Rather than capturing a traditional concert, Magnificent Coloring World was built as a fully staged production, with intentional set design, lighting, and movement, similar to acts in live theater. Each performance is carefully blocked and visually composed, blending live instrumentation, choir arrangements, and ensemble staging to reflect the gospel-influenced core of Coloring Book. Chance’s attention to detail in the film’s production, combined with its key collaborators, allows it to capture not just the music but the full experience of the Coloring Book era in a way that feels both expansive and personal.

Released in May 2016, Coloring Book was monumental not just for Chance but for the entire independent music landscape. Breaking barriers as the first streaming-only album to win three Grammy Awards, it signaled a seismic shift in music consumption and what was considered “legitimate.” The album’s vibrantly blended soundscape of gospel, hip-hop, and soulful instrumentation delivered a message of optimism and community that resonated deeply, brought to life through standout contributions from collaborators including Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Kirk Franklin, Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, T-Pain, and Saba. Anchored by Chance’s longtime creative partners Nico Segal (formerly Donnie Trumpet), Peter Cottontale, and The Social Experiment, alongside additional production from Kaytranada, Brasstracks, and Francis and the Lights, the project fused live instrumentation with contemporary rap in a way that felt both expansive and experimental. The project received almost immediate critical acclaim, with Rolling Stone hailing it a “gospel-rap masterpiece,” and The New York Times recognizing Chance as “a crusader and a pop savant.” Complex solidified its historical significance, calling it “a defining moment for independent artists” and underscoring its cultural weight and commercial success outside the traditional record label system.

F3PR: Chance the Rapper releases new trailer for Magnificent Coloring World concert film

Film Flam Flummox

PRESS RELEASE

CHANCE THE RAPPER RELEASES NEW TRAILER FOR
MAGNIFICENT COLORING WORLD CONCERT FILM

Premiering August 13 at Select AMC Theatres

Pre-Sale Tickets Available Friday July 16

Today, Chance the Rapper premiered the official trailer to his highly-anticipated concert film, Magnificent Coloring World, after previously releasing the teaser trailer in May. The preview revealed an August 13 release date, with presale tickets available to fans starting next Friday, July 16.The film is set to premiere in Los Angeles on Aug 13, followed by a New York premiere on August 14, exclusively at AMC Theatres. Their historic partnership marks the first time an artist has independently distributed a film through AMC Theatres.

In 2017, on the heels of taking home 3 Grammy® Awards for his mixtape Coloring Book, Chance the Rapper performed and filmed a secret concert for his biggest fans in Chicago. The film shares this never-before-seen footage for the first time on the big screen. Directed by Jake Shreier (Robot & Frank, Paper Towns), and featuring a stage and sound design like none other, Magnificent Coloring World is the movie and music ticket of the summer. Chance appeared on Good Morning America where he discusses more details on his original set design for Magnificent Coloring World.

Staying true to his independent artistry, Chance led the editing process and is also self-distributing the film through his House of Kicks umbrella. The House of Kicks is the film house that has become home to Chance, creating an artistic pod where he is reimagining music, film, and virtual experiences.

In 2020, Chance – who hit #1 on the charts with his song “Holy” with Justin Bieber – adapted to stay-at-home orders and completely pivoted the concert experience. He created 11 unique virtual concerts, with Adweek declaring, “These performances redefine what it means to experience music remotely.” In December 2020, Chance released his critically-acclaimed virtual holiday concert film Chi-Town Christmas on YouTube and 3D on Oculus. An ode to Christmas, Chicago, and the miraculous recovery of Jeremih, Chi-Town Christmas is a beautifully shot concert film written and directed by Chance.
