CinemaCon 2019, Day 4: Coca-Cola Final Night Party

After returning to what had been the traditional location of the Garden of the Gods Pool Oasis for last year's Coca-Cola CinemaCon Final Night Party, the 2019 convention inexplicably closed out, as it had in 2017, at the Octavius Ballroom. With the change in location came a return to having a Vegas headliner serve as the featured entertainment for the festivities, this year the Australian vocal quartet Human Nature, currently in residency at the Venetian, brought their Motown tribute act to the stage. The space was decorated with various oversize Coca-Cola-themed props.

And so ends another CinemaCon. I look forward to returning to cover the 10th anniversary edition in 2020!

CinemaCon 2019, Day 4: Big Screen Achievement Awards

Film Flam Flummox

CinemaCon

With all business matters and breaking news, from the studios selling their product for the year to come to vendors peddling the latest in cinema technologies and concessions offerings to exhibitors voicing and tending to their various industry concerns, firmly in the rear view, CinemaCon 2019 came to its close with the Thursday night, no-worries tradition of the Big Screen Achievement Awards, honoring notable acting and filmmaking talent, most of whom involved in upcoming releases featured throughout the week at the various studio presentations. This year's complete list of honorees:

  • Breakthrough Filmmaker of the Year: Olivia Wilde
  • Action Star of the Year: David Harbour
  • International Star of the Year: Kevin Hart
  • Cinema Spotlight Award: Octavia Spencer
  • Directors of the Year: Joe & Anthony Russo
  • Ensemble of the Year: Linda Hamilton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mackenzie Davis, Natalia Reyes, Gabriel Luna of Terminator: Dark Fate
  • Male Star of Tomorrow: Henry Golding
  • Female Stars of Tomorrow: Kaitlyn Dever & Beanie Feldstein
  • CinemaCon Vanguard Award: Jamie Lee Curtis
  • Comedy Stars of the Year: Charlize Theron & Seth Rogen
  • Cinema Icon Award: Steve Buscemi
As in previous years, a pre-awards show press conference at the OMNIA Nightclub adjacent to the show venue of the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Celebrity arrival times being unpredictable and still photographers and television news crews on the carpet being the awards winners' first, top priority stop, not every award ever stops by for the press conference stop. Below are the full videos of the sessions.

Olivia Wilde, Breakthrough Filmmaker of the Year,
with Coca-Cola Regal Films student film program winners
Shayain Lakhani and Devon Solwold

David Harbour, Action Star of the Year

Henry Golding, Male Star of Tomorrow

Jamie Lee Curtis, Cinema Vanguard Award recipient

Joe and Anthony Russo, Directors of the Year

Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen, Comedy Stars of the Year

Natalie Morales, host of Access and co-host of its daytime spinoff Access Live, returned as host for show for the third consecutive year.
